The Environment Agency have reported 133mm of rain in 7 hours just inland
from Boscastle. This is the highest figure I've seen so far. -- Graham Penzance |

This looks much more realistic ... given that at Slaughterbridge 14mm fell outside the main downpour, that would suggest 115-125mm in 2 hours. My estimate last night was that 100-125mm may have fallen over the catchment as a whole, possibly with a highest point rainfall of 150mm or more. (Slaughterbridge is 10km south of the Valency catchment.) Any location name for this report, Graham? Philip Eden |

Philip Eden Not the exact location, it was described by an Environment Agency spokesman on the local news as 'in the catchment area'. I'll watch the local news again later, and let you know if the excact location is given. Graham |

Perhaps the EA are taking an integrated value derived from the radar,
although a spokesman on the BBC R4 1 PM news said that they had a gauge in the area that 'gave them some warning'. -- Bernard Burton Wokingham, Berkshire, UK. It was from a gauge. They have a surprising number of rain gauges in
Cornwall Following the 2003 St. Ives syorm they kindly supplied me with rainfall figures from 11 gauges they had, all within 10 miles of Penzance, including 2 within 2 miles of my station.. I am delighted to see that someone has come up with some realistic figures
for this. It annoyed me to see in the media 60 mm (just over 2 inches in 2 hours). It was damned obvious from this damage that it was much more than this. I would like Philip Eden to make something of this important issue in his next column in the telegraph as I feel ( as I am sure other do ) that an event like this is extremely important and significant.
