Why is it when my computer crashes (Windows XP) it dumps all the
little picture icons that are displayed in the favourites column. Most frustrating. Keith (Southend) IE has never been able to handle favicons properly. Use a different browser (nearly all other browsers will store/display them properly) if it bothers you. In fact you should use a different browser anyway for a million reasons. -- Brian Wakem |

I'm no techie but wasn't service pack 1 intended to replace the stolen Java with the real thing rather than put security to the fore? Reinstall your XP as nature intended and stop everything in it from web access. Get a Java download from the rightful owners and put it in Firefox. (If you must use OE get Thunderbird you dummy, and use that instead.) You can then use the OS the way it was intended and expect it to crash no more forever. But I am only guessing. -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |

How to keep fav icons.
Keith the icons [little files ending in .ico] for url's/links are stored in the "Temporary Internet Files" folder. If this folder gets cleared out by accident or design your favs will loose their individual icons. You should find this folder in XP by browsing in windows explorer to: C:\Documents and Settings\???????\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files ??????? is your name or logon name. [While your their, look in the "Temp" folder and delete ALL the files. It is safe to do this. When you have completed the steps below you can delete ALL the files in "Temporary Internet Files" folder too. This is also safe to do.And may get you back Megs of disk space. Look for files [amongst the thousands] ending in .ico If you click on the " Type" tab at the top of explorer the files will sort, alphabetically, into "types" and all the icon files will be together. You must have visited sites for the .ico files to be present. Copy the files one at a time onto your desktop and rename each one with a name that's suitable. They will all be called "favicon" so rename say to "Avibrief.ico" Copy your saved icon files into a folder [why not call it "icons"] on your C Drive. Now right click on any saved url and choose "properties" then click on change "icon" Browse to the folder you saved your icons in and say OK,OK. Now your icon pictures will remain if Temporary Internet Files folder gets cleared. Email me at thunderATuk2DOTnet if you want more help Change the AT to @ and the DOT to .
