At 1215 the Jazz FM DJ announced an apology for their 1200 weather
forecast (which had been for dry weather). He said that, during the last record, he had left the studio (apparently in London W1) for a moment and noticed that it was "weeing down" (I presume this is a technical term g). He apologised for the Met Office forecast and there was then the sound of paper being torn up. He then said that they will correct the forecast at 1300. -- Howard Neil (western end of the Brecon Beacons National Park, at 235 metres asl) |

Absolutely - not just Jazz though. All the BBC forecasts since mid last week
have forecast a good Bank Holiday for the SE. Each day it has been downgraded by saying tomorrow will be OK though, with the possible exception of some patchy drizzle Sunday. So far it has been the coldest few days since June and among the cloudiest. Now, on dry Monday it is chucking it down. I give up!! Dave "Howard Neil" wrote in message ... A common sound these days with the trash coming out of the Met Office these days. Tomorrow's so called "changes" on the Met Office site will be interesting, but not expecting I for one am not expecting miracles. Phillip Eden hit it on the head in yesterday's Telegraph with his comment "widely regarded as all but useless within the profession." Also, the confession by a Met Office spokesman "that the five-day on-line forecasts were "cheap and cheerful". Disgusting! Tom |

The trouble is tomorrow never comes. This sounds just like last winter
g Not again! Just had a heavy shower here in Southend, Wife's just gone off with the huff to the Wakering Fair. Of course it's all my fault! I wonder whether the improvement will actually come this week. It was almost like another low decided to repeat the cycle again without telling anyone. Here, there was sign of a light shower overnight (but no rain recorded) and it has been dry and bright today (and improving all the time). I seriously can't believe that they would say that.... from a commercial aspect that's just plain suicide. They sell the bl**dy things to the BBC, government sites etc... to say they are "cheap and cheerful" yet still charge over 10x in the industry price is incredible. A |

Howard Neil (western end of the Brecon Beacons National Park, at 235 metres asl) Who was going to 'correct the forecast at 1300'?. I suspect that as with most radio stations they had produced a quick interpretation of the forecast given to them. The accuracy of these short summaries pushed out by both BBC and commercial radio at times beggars belief. Forecasts for the York area this weekend have been generally OK. At 1300 they gave a very realistic forecast. The announcer mentioned the earlier inaccuracies and suggested that showers should now be expected. A Hey Andrew, how's the Tesco contract coming along ? :-) Love your "mountain forecasts" especially for the Yes Tor and High Willhays 'ranges' on Dartmoor, they are all of, let me see, circa 300 metres apart from each other LOL :-) Still they're cheap (free !) and cheerful (straight from the relatively coarse GFS model). Seriously, the presentation is rather nice - well done !
