Well, someone will tell me that's what I'm doing.
All the August stuff is now completed, plus a look
forward to September.

I clicked on the August mean pressure map for "more" and got 4 blank
squares. Is it me? I've got the Vector Graphics software download required
for this.

Tudor, do you have broadband? The files are quite large, and it
takes the
best part of a minute even with ADSL ... much longer, I guess, on
dial-up. It may be my inexperience with scanners, images, etc, but
I've tried hard to make them smaller, with only limited success.

Possibly just you, Tudor. The maps came through ok when I tried using IE,
Firefox and Netscape. IE was a bit hesitant though.

Just a few seconds here, the graphics card nearly had a coronary, though :-)
Maybe it's the compression causing problems. Try these, Tudor, :-

I too saw the 4 blank squares at first, but eventually they did load after
quite a time delay.

I've looked at image sizes in my temporary internet cache and see you did
get number 1 down to 89kb whilst the other three are over 500kb. My guess
is those three could be compressed more.

I've just checked the dimensions of the images as well. They are
1250 x 917 pixels for number 1
3108 x 2445 pixels for 2
3078 x 2444 pixels for 3
3093 x 2454 pixels for 4

You could readily resize those last three to nearer number 1 and decrease
file size by a large proportion.

Mike, you are far too kind ... I was obviously much too keen
to publish my scratchings and I didn't even check the image sizes.
I hope it's better now.

I bring the same skills to my website that I use to bake bread.
Just guess the quantities, throw them all into a mixing bowl, and
hope it turns out OK. After 25 years of baking bread my loaves
turn out perfectly time after time ... so there's still hope for my
webpages if anyone cares to hang around long enough.

Thanks to all of you for your advice. All comes to those who wait, but
patience is not one of my virtues. It took about a minute the first time, but
after I had restarted the computer and tried again the charts appeared more or
less instantly. This is on bog-standard AOL dial-up. Maybe my computer
requires a spring-clean.
As to the charts themselves, the pressure anomaly must be close to a
record for a summer month. It's certainly the lowest mean August pressure I
have recorded in 21 yrs, though 1992 and 1999 come close. I would imagine the
anomaly distribution for August 1968 would also be a sight to behold.
