uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

Evidence of wave turbulence at the ceiling of the easterly flow this evening.Waves transverse to the
strong surface flow with 'humpbacks' of laminar Sc and then coexistent smaller wavelength 'scallops'. Much higher than I thought judging from the 12Z RAOB- http://weather.uwyo.edu/cgi-bin/soun...612&STNM=03882 -- regards, david (add 17 to waghorne to reply) |

I assume that is the scientific explaination for the thin high cloud and
strong breeze bringing cooler conditions to the S.E. Dave "SSpiers" wrote in message ... You've lost me on that one Mr Spock LOL ;-) |

I assume that is the scientific explaination for the thin high cloud and
strong breeze bringing cooler conditions to the S.E. Dave The high cloud has been there all day, and I thought it was pretty thick, some of the thickest Ci/Cs I have seen for a long time. The Sc didn't arrive until later, but I didn't detect any lenticularity, maybe for not looking hard enough and it looked pretty bog-standard stuff and made me think the fine spell has gone a bit sour, at least here in the SE. The wind is forecast to veer a bit in the next day or two and this could make all the difference between relatively cool cloudy conditions and some rather exceptional warmth. You've lost me on that one Mr Spock LOL ;-) Well I'll refrain from any comments about life as we know it on USENET........almost. post refers to wave clouds arranged at right angles to the surface easterly flow which picked up here y'day afternoon. These are likely due to directional wind shearThe RAOB suggests the interface between this surface flow and the southerly lies ~500hPa,~5500m.Observing the turbulence compared to aircraft on the approach to London City airport I initially thought they were much lower. I spose a picture wld help but....., -- regards, david (add 17 to waghorne to reply) |
