I was just checking the August temperature data for local stations and
realised there was (I think) a remarkable event on the 1st. At Solent MRSC, the minimum was 16.2 and the maximum 17.5. Southampton Airport recorded either 16 or 17C for all 18 hours of its half-hourly readings that day. This would be a remarkably flat temperature range for any month of the year... but in August? It wouldn't have been coastal fog because the Airport is well inland. Did anyone else notice this effect last Friday, is it really as unusual as I think, can anyone "beat" the flatness, and what is the explanation? (I don't recall that day at all!). Here are the archived METARS for EGHI, in tabular format: http://weather.uwyo.edu/cgi-bin/wyow...M&STATION=EGHI and hopefully someone who can read them better than me can help! Cheers -- Dave Fareham |
