But I was placated when I heard this statement:"only now are
scientists starting to see patterns - not because of global warming
but because of natural changes instead (or in state)". They then ran
an interview with a scientist from Hadley Centre, who alluded to the
natural changes in sea temperature and currents in cycles lasting
several decades. That gets them off the hook, for me!

Don't think there was any divergence. This is the same as I saw on the
main news. Main thrust was that this was part of natural variation.

When I saw the first post in this thread my first thoughts were that
they just can't win with some people.

Having been a regular transitter of TRS prone areas in my earlier career
my ears did prick up at the bit where apparently sea temp alone triggers
formation of cyclones. Possibly just an over simplification for a lay
audience (of which 99.9% are).

One of these days one of them will be swept away, never to be seen again.

I believe that something like that happened in Japan in the early
eighties. 60 or so reporters went to meet their ancestors when Mt Untzen
exploded in their faces. Everyone else heeded the warning and got the
hell out of the way.

I thought it was one of the funniest disaster movies ever. They only
showed the footage on one newsbroadcast (on the BBC at that.) The rest
of the world -not waiting in awe, got to see it on clips of the various
natural phenomena type programmes....

....... a l o o o o o o o o o o o n g time later.
