Default Today's model interpretation (11/09/04)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Wednesday. Issued
0602z, 11/09/04.

The models continue to show that after an unsettled start to the week, there
may well be a brief respite before SW'lies return. As ever in these
situations, the further north and west you are the less settled it is likely
to be.

ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif
The UK lies under northerlies and NW'lies, with low pressure over the North
Sea. A ridge moves across the UK at T+144, bringing westerlies and SW'lies,
followed by SW'lies for all at T+168 as high pressure builds over France.

MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html
SW'lies cover the UK, with high pressure to the south and east. There's
little change at T+144, with strong SW'lies for all.

GFS: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Rtavn1201.gif
A deep low lies to the WNW of Scotland, bringing SW'lies across the UK.
850hPa temperatures range from +3C over NE Scotland to +10C over Northern
Ireland, in the warm sector of the low. The SW'lies continue at T+144, but
by T+168 they become westerlies as the low fills to the north of Scotland.
Day 8 sees pressure rise to the south, with westerlies persisting. By day 9
a ridge affects England and Wales, with SSW'lies or SW'lies across the UK. A
trough approaches from the west on day 10, with southerlies for most.

GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
A weak ridge is affecting England and Wales, bringing westerlies there and
SW'lies or southerlies elsewhere. 850hPa temperatures vary from +1C over
northern Scotland to +8C over Northern Ireland. By T+144 the UK lies under
WSW'lies and SW'lies, with lighter winds the further south you are.

JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html
The Japanese run shows low pressure over the North Sea and strong
westerlies, NW'lies and northerlies for the UK. 850hPa temperatures range
from +3C over NW Scotland to +6C over Cornwall. A ridg ebrings light winds
to all areas except Northern Ireland at T+144, followed by SW'lies at T+168
as the ridge moves eastwards and builds. Day 8 sees the winds ease slightly,
with high pressure persisting to the south and east.
