Default Today's model interpretation (21/09/04)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Saturday. Issued
0611z, 21/09/04.

Although the position of lows varies between runs, the general picture is
one of a relatively unsettled weekend (for most) with settled conditions
affecting southern areas at least next week.

ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif
Strong westerlies are affecting the UK, with low pressure near Iceland and a
ridge over Biscay. A ridge builds to the west of the UK at T+144, allowing
strong NW'lies and northerlies to affect the UK. The winds become
northerlies at T+168, as the ridge moves slowly eastwards.

MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html
High pressure is centred over northern France, leading to SW'lies for the
UK. The winds become westerlies at T+144 as low pressure moves slowly
eastwards from Iceland.

GFS: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Rtavn1201.gif
The UK lies between a high to the south and low pressure over Iceland,
leading to westerlies for all. 850hPa temperatures vary from +3C over
northern Scotland to +11C over SW England and Wales. The winds become
WNW'lies at T+144 as the low moves eastwards, followed by NW'lies at T+168
with a ridge over Ireland. The nearby high drifts over western France on day
8, bringing light westerlies for the UK, followed by light NW'lies on day 9
as a ridge from the high builds over Ireland. By day 10 the high builds
NE'wards, leaving the UK under light southerlies (for western areas) and
light northerlies (in eastern parts).

GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
Northerlies and NW'lies cover the UK as the result of a ridge to the west
and low pressure over Denmark. 850hPa temperatues are from +1C over NW
Scotland to +5C over SE England. NNW'lies affect the UK at T+144 as the
ridge moves slowly eastwards.

JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html
The Japanese run shows similar setup to the other runs, with the UK squeezed
between a low to the north and a high to the south, with westerlies for all.
850hPa temperatures vary from +5C over NW Scotland to +11C over SW England.
A trough moves eastwards at T+144, with NW'lies in its wake. The NW'lies
ease at T+168 as a ridge moves in from the west and by day 8 high pressure
builds over England, Ireland and Wales, with westerlies for Scotland.
