Default Today's model interpretation (9/08/03)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output, for noon (GMT) on Wednesday.
Issued 0611z, 9/08/03.

ECMWF: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm1201.html
High pressure covers the UK, bringing light winds to all areas except the
far north of Scotland, which lies under moderate westerlies. The high moves
eastwards at T+144, bringing southerlies to all, followed at T+168 by
westerlies and SSW'lies, as a shallow low lies to the north of Scotland.

MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html
The UK lies under high pressure, as with the ECM run. Winds are light for
most, although once again the far north of Scotland lies under moderate
westerlies. As with the ECM run, the high drifts eastwards at T+144, this
time bringing southerlies and easterlies over much of the UK, with SW'lies
for northern and western Scotland.

GFS:

Northerlies and NW'lies cover the UK, with a shallow low over the
Netherlands and a ridge to the west of Ireland. The ridge moves eastwards at
T+120, with northerlies and NW'lies continuing to affect most of the UK.
850hPa temperatures range from +3C over northern Scotland to +10C over
Cornwall. The high covers England and Wales at T+144, with SW'lies
elsewhere. Light westerlies affect the UK at T+168, with a ridge to the NW
of Scotland and another ridge over England and Wales. A shallow low lies to
the NW of Scotland on day 8, leading to WSW'lies over much of the UK.
Westerlies cover the UK on day 9 as the low fills to the north of Scotland,
while on day 10 a ridge brings light winds to all areas except Scotland,
which lies under NW'lies.

GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120_e.html
Unavailable today.

JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html
The UK lies under a NW'ly flow, with a ridge over the Irish Sea. 850hPa
temperatures range from +3C over NW Scotland to +11C over southern England.

In summary, the runs show high pressure moving eastwards over the UK for the
latter half of next week, with a chance of less settled conditions for
Scotland and Northern Ireland the weekend approaches. As ever, more runs are
needed.
