uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

Bit of help required here.
Got a new electronic barometer. Nothing hugely expensive. Anyway, I'm in Donaghadee on the east coast of NI. The pressure reading on the barometer is 1016mb and that seems to be close enough to the Met Office pressure charts. However... on the BBC site where it gives you a reading of "current nearest observations" it says 1005mb. That's 23km away in Belfast, but is quite a bit off the reading I have, which matches the Met Office chart. Things were more or less the same yesterday but I thought I'd leave it 24 hours for my new barometer to settle down. Am I missing something obvious? There is a setting where I can offset the reading to correct it if necessary... |

Oh... and on the BBC site the "Coastal Observations" page for Larne shows 1016mb, which once again is in line with me, so I'm putting the other 1005mb observation into the category of "not useful" unless someone advises me otherwise! |

The 1950 observation at Belfast Aldergrove airport gives a reading of
1022mb. Given that you're only 23km away, I'd say that was good enough unless there is a strong pressure gradient ocross the region, i.e.a deep low passing through. You can get the latest observations he http://www.wunderground.com/global/UK.html Hope that helps. Jim. "Mark S" wrote in message ... "Mark S" wrote in message ... Bit of help required here. It's showing 1021 mb which suggests you should be pretty close to 1020 mb. Thanks.. have set it to 1020mb. Does anyone know if Bangor Harbour on that site is Bangor NI (6 miles away from me) or Bangor in North Wales? I'm guessing it's the Coastguard HQ in Bangor NI... |
