Instantaneous drop in temp (4 degs)and dewpoint on passage of front
Monday. Visibility afterwards was stunning with distant features merely appearing "small", ie no haze - the sort of visibility that occurs only a few times each year at best I tried to photgraph Ely Cathedral (40 kms distant) but couldn't manage to align the camera to look through my (birders') telescope properly! But this link show King's College, Cambridge from 18 kms distance. http://www.itadvice.co.uk/weatherjack/King's.jpg Jack |

When its skyscrapers first came in view across the desert, it looked close enough that I thought that we would be there in another 15 minutes. Half an hour later, we seemed to be no nearer. -- John Hall You can divide people into two categories: those who divide people into two categories and those who don't |

To the east we could see the Peninnes, to the north the hills of Dumfriesshire & to the south a hill I later identified in Lancashire. I think the Dumfriesshire hills were something like 110km away. Of course from over 3,000 ft you _should_ be able to see a long way, but vis is often around 2 metres on Helvellyn :-( Slightly OT, the two best atmospheric phenomena I've seen were a magnificent display of the Perseids seen from the top of the The Wrekin (before the current light-polluting town of Telford was built), and a full "glory" from a glider at (ahem, let's call it) 12,000 feet over the Great Glen. (For Jack: very strong wave off Mull, we had no oxygen with us and even at 120kt with the brakes out were still not descending. So the only way to come down was to spin :-) Mike |

Whereabouts are you located, as you'd have been high up?(ish) |
