MANY SHOWERS. A SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT AT THE END OF THE PERIOD. DRYEST IN THE EXTREME SOUTH-EAST: The single chart for the period 1st to 10th November shows a deep depression near Iceland stretching down towards N Scotland. High pressure lies to the east and south-east of Britain and also to the SW of the British Isles. A small secondary depression swings across the southern half of Britain, suggesting that conditions are right for small depressions to cross the country throughout the period. Winds are generally south-west in the east of the country and west turning north-west in the west of the country. The air is generally cooler to the west of Ireland and this stretches into the mainland from the west. Milder air generally covers the North Sea area. Generally heavy rain is expected over N and NW Scotland with showers elsewhere except the extreme SE of England where it will be dryer. The 500mb top. shows generally W to SW winds over the country with a divergent field in the south, suggesting small spin-off depressions in the south. On 1st, cooler air crosses the country from the west. On 2nd, cooler air still crosses the country in the north, but milder air enters the southern half of the country and moves eastwards. As the mild air moves eastwards on the 3rd, cooler air moves in towards west Ireland. On the 4th and 5th, cooler air remains in the west of Ireland and milder air covers the south-east of England. On 6th a blast of cooler air enters the country from the west and spreads eastwards. On the 7th, a small thrust of mild air into the south-west doesn't make much headway northwards as it moves eastwards along the Channel by the 8th. Throughout the 7th and 8th, cooler air remains in the NW of the country. On 9th, a new area of cool air comes into the NW of the country with the mildest place in the extreme SE of England. The run of weather starts on Mon. 1st with a depression coming into W Scotland and its fronts coming into Wales and SW England. The rest of the HP over the continent is just leaving SE England. Winds are SW in the east of the country and W in the west. Rain showers in the N and W of Scotland and further showers in the SW of the country. Strong winds expected over W Scotland. On Tues. 2nd, a depression stretches from W/E across Scotland with a secondary depression near S Ireland and a possible disturbance off SE England. Winds are variable but westerly in the north of the country. Strongest winds in the west of Britain. Rain showers in most parts. Possible heavy rain in the SE of England. On Wed. 3rd, a complex area of LP covers Ireland and W Scotland with a secondary depression near S Ireland moving into Wales. Winds are mostly SW with the strongest winds in the W of Ireland and the E of Scotland. Heavy rain expected over Scotland and the SW of England. On Thurs.4th, a ridge of HP comes into England and SE Scotland with LP to the W of Scotland. Winds are SW over central and western areas, but light in the E and SE of the country. Rain showers expected over north and north-west Scotland, mostly dry elsewhere with the chance of frost and fog at night. On Fri. 5th, the HP in the SE of England drifts away eastwards and the LP to the NW of the country moves towards Scotland. Winds are SW over most of the country, strongest in the NW of Scotland. Rain showers cover most of the country but probably dry at first in the SE. On Sat. 6th, a depression moves into W Scotland. Winds are SW over the country, strongest in the W of Scotland. East and SE England may be dry, but rain showers cover the northern areas with heaviest rain to the W of Scotland. On Sun. 7th, an area of LP lies to the N of Scotland and a secondary depression moves towards S Ireland. Another small depression moves towards France from the Channel. Winds are generally W to SW, strongest in the W of the country. Showers cover much of the country. Heavy showers in the SE of England. On Mon. 8th, HP builds up to the W of Ireland and moves eastwards LP lies to the N and NE of Scotland and a secondary depression leaves the Channel towards France. A further disturbance could be near Ireland. Winds are generally W, strongest in the SW of the country but also strong in the E and W of Scotland. On Tues. 9th, HP builds up in the SW of the country and spreads ENE. LP lies to the NW and W of Scotland. Winds are light, W in the north and E in the south. Rain showers expected in the north, fog and frost in central and southern districts. On Wed. 10th, LP lies to the NW of the country and HP covers the south and south-east areas of England. A small secondary may develop over Ireland and spread ENE into the mainland. Winds are south-west, strongest in the NW of the country. Rain showers in the north and west of Britain. Fog and frost possible in the SE. Cheers, Keith .. |
