Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon (GMT) on Sunday. Issued
0607z, 27/10/04. Once again the models are mixed. There are large differences with the development of a high near the UK over the weekend and beginning of next week. All that can be said is that it's looking relatively settled for most areas for the beginning of next week, although as ever more runs are needed. ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif The chart for T+120 is unavailable. High pressure over Scandinavia brings easterlies for the UK at T+144, followed by light SE'lies, easterlies and NE'lies at T+168 as it builds and sinks SE'wards. MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html NW Scotland lies under SW'lies, while southern England is affected by ENE'lies, all due to a high over the UK. The high builds and moves eastwards at T+144, leaving a ridge over the UK; this leads to SW'lies for Scotland and easterlies for England and Wales. GFS: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Rtavn1201.gif A ridge covers the UK, with light winds for most. 850hPa temperatures vary from +2C over East Anglia to +4C over northern Scotland and SW England. SW'lies affect the UK at T+144 due to a trough west of Scotland, followed by variable winds as a new high builds to the west. The high moves over Ireland on day 8, bringing westerlies to Scotland and ENE'lies or NE'lies for England and Wales. Easterlies and SSW'lies affect the UK on day 9 as the high builds over the North Sea. Day 10 sees the high over Germany, leaving Scotland and Northern Ireland under SW'lies. NOGAPS: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/ng...20.europeg.gif High pressure is centred to the east of Scotland with a ridge over the UK. Winds are light for most, although moderate ENE'lies cover much of central and southern England. GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html The Canadian run shows NE'lies over the UK due to a ridge atop Scotland. A col covers the UK at T+144, bringing light winds. JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html Unavailable today. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif A ridge extends southwards from Greenland to Iceland and beyond, leading to northerlies and NNE'lies for the UK. DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...270000_120.gif A ridge covers the UK, with light winds for all. GM CPTEC: http://www.cptec.inpe.br/prevnum/Global126_sx6_Gl.shtml Unavailable today. MM5: http://rain.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/plots/n...6hrn.hr120.gif The mesoscale output westerlies for much of the UK, with high pressure to the SW. MM5 Snow forecast: http://rain.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/plots/n...snoc.hr120.gif No snow is expected to lie across the UK at T+120. |
