Caught up with this on the BBC South Today programme this evening ...
they called it the obligatory 'mini-tornado'; it's a 'mini-cyclone' in this report. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/3963311.stm Certainly the conditions (and the time of year - with the energy locked up in the Channel) would lend credence to a tornadic event .... anyone got any data down there? A sad event - although these do occur with regularity (even if we can't recognise them as such), they often do a lot of damage without necessarily being fatal. BBC South did quite well with this one ... last night (Friday) they had
an interview from someone in TORRO, and the footage of the clear-up was detailed enough to clearly see the twisted nature of the damage to the tree - they also made the point that the damage trail was narrow and confined to a few properties etc. And, Sally Taylor simply called it a tornado! They must be learning. Martin. "Les Crossan" om wrote in message ... Tsk, tsk Martin, the South Coast is known as the the UK's Tornado Alley (: Don't Dyson do mini - cyclones??
