Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon (GMT) on Tuesday. Issued
0604z, 29/10/04. The mainstream models are pointing to a mostly settled outlook for the middle of next week, although it remains to be seen whether the high is a cloudy one or not. ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif High pressure is centred over the Baltic, with a ridge acorss the UK bringing westerlies for Scotland and ENE'lies for England and Wales. By T+144 a high builds to the west of the UK, bringing NW'lies and NNE'lies. The high builds in situ at T+168 with NE'lies and northerlies. The ridge builds over the UK at T+144 with westerlies for northern areas and easterlies for southern areas. GFS: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Rtavn1201.gif The UK lies under high pressure, with light anticyclonic winds. 850hPa temperatures vary from freezing over southern England to +6C over Scotland and Northern Ireland. The high builds over the UK at T+144 and then stays put all the way out to day 10 - although by then westerlies are affecting northern Scotland. The ridge builds at T+144, bringing light winds for Wales and much of England. The winds become westerlies and northerlies on day 7 as the high recentred to the south of Ireland, followed by easterlies on day 8 with a high north of Scotland.
