Something which everyone on this planet should be able to do. ================================================== ================== Yes the heavy rain (circa 2") in past couple of days has now increased my monthly rainfall total for October 2004 to 314.1 mm. More than a foot ! And an average of 10mm/day, which is a sobering thought. This is the highest rainfall monthly total I have ever recorded in my life both professionally and personally. Mind you this is the first time I have ever lived/worked in a high rainfall area. To celebrate I will be pouring myself half a shandy this evening :-) YES - COME ON - YOU CAN DO IT - Brilliant ! Hi Will,
some decent downpours over the past three days have boosted the Exeter monthly total to about half a foot! 27th 16.9 mm 28th 20.3 mm 29th 14.9 mm This is also around 2" over the three days, a lot for the Exeter rain shadow area! I guess that's it for the month unless we get any showers today though, cheers, Pete SE Exeter Will wrote: Yes the heavy rain (circa 2") in past couple of days has now increased my monthly rainfall total for October 2004 to 314.1 mm. To celebrate I will be pouring myself half a shandy this evening :-) The heaviest I ever experienced was when working in Brunei and on Labuan Island in Sabah. In 6 months of the year Labuan averages over 300 mm per month. The wettest is October, averaging 465 mm. Further down the coast, Kuching in Sarawak averages 610 mm in January. I recall some extremely wet days with incessant torrential rain. The intensity almost becomes frightening. Norman. Ecstatic cheers, I have recorded 307mm this month. This is also the highest monthly rainfall total I have ever recorded but I only started recording in October 2003. I will have to save the drink till tomorrow night, though, as the male voice choir I sing in has its annual concert tonight (for anyone in the Llandeilo area). -- Howard Neil (western end of the Brecon Beacons National Park, at 235 metres asl) |

Water still flowing off the moor down the road even this afternoon, and some local roads still have floodwater, mostly from seepage off fields/moor etc. Massive lakes in Powderham castle grounds and the road out of Starcross going along by the river Exe was under 3 foot of water and impassable this morning. I never reached it at Penistone, I think 290 ish was the highest. There were times when it would have been achieved though across 2 months, as it were. EG I recall 283.6 between 30th July and 9th August 2002. Currently 143.8 for this dry area and I don't anticipate any more. -- David Mitchell, 70m amsl, Langtoft, East Riding of Yorkshire. |
