Default October's warmest day

Checking out the monthly weather records for this month, I came across
an interesting statistic, well interesting for saddos like me that is!

The warmest day of this month in Coventry has just been 16.5C (24th) -
this is the lowest such value here since 1974, even though this will be
an October that is warmer than the 30-year mean (+0.3C).

Here is a list of the lowest monthly maxima for Coventry since 1892 for
comparison:

1892= 16.1C
1905= 15.0C
1918= 16.3C
1932= 15.8C
1944= 15.3C
1952= 15.6C
1974= 13.7C

Well, I found it interesting anyway:-)

For comparison, my highest was 14 (2nd and 3rd) although it is very sunny
today ... (:

That reminds me of just how exceptionally chilly October, 1974 was. Of
course, it was the precursor to an exceptionally mild winter.

Steve,

I am also a saddo, and a Victor Meldrew, apparently.

Copley figure stands at 14.6C max for the month (av.17.1C), also on
24th. This is the lowest ab. max for October here as well. Mean max is
11.0C (-0.3C)

October 1974 absolute high at my Low Etherley site (155m) was 12.8C on
26th. Mean max for October 74 was 9.1C(-2.5C)

Here in Wishaw, central Lowlands, this months maximum will be 15.1ºC (on the
7th). Last year only had one day that eclipsed that value (16.8ºC).
1999 had a lower absoloute maximum of 15.0ºC. As did 1993, with 14.3ºC being
the highest October maximum that year.

Precipitation total at 162.6mm here, the wettest October since 1998. But
August this year was considerably wetter.

college entry exam.

It shows the temperature has been fairly uniform and the month has been
similar here in Surrey. The highest was 16.6°C on the 24th.
A similar example is June 2003, which is the warmest June in my record
(starting 1983), but the highest max was only 26.6°C. This is only 4.4°C above
the mean max for that month, and less than the average June highest of 27.1°C.
I reckon members of the public did not think of June 2003 as particularly hot,
due to the absence of very hot days.

I know what you mean. Something to do with mild nights Steve. My garden
still thinks its August I reckon, with everything about to give another
bloom. The roses haven't a clue that it's November in a few hours time.

Hi, Alex,

Re-assuring! Actually, my grand daughter is impressed with my Elvis
records, son 2 is after the Beatles LPs and daughter 1 "borrows"
anything. They can not quite get into the Bob Dylan Highway 61 stuff
though!

Can't seem to be rid of the Victor image. I think I'm a natural grumpy
old man where 20 somethings are concerned.

Gorgeous day here, btw. Up to 12.3C with 5hr sun so far.

ATB,

I was a bit surprised to measure 17.6c in Chalfont St Giles yesterday. I
did wonder if I had mis-read it but then Northolt (not far from here)
came up as the warmest in the country with 18.2c. It looks like we had a
bit of a hot spot around here.

What's even sadder is I actually quite like the guy - can't see the problem
others have with him!
