Default Canterbury - October 2004

Second month of recording at Canterbury:

Temperature
Mean 11.6 °C (+0.7°C*)
Mean Max 15.8 °C
Abs. Max 18.7 °C (24th)
Mean Min 7.4 °C
Abs. Min 0.6 °C (19th)

Rain
Total 73.4 mm** (86%*)
Days 0.2mm 22 days
Days 2.0mm 11 days
Days 20.0mm 0 days
Max Rain 14.2 mm (12th)
Max Rate 137.9 mm/hr (14th)

Pressure
Max 1019.7 mb ( 8th)
Min 987.9 mb (21st)

*Compared with 1971-2001 averages at Wye.

**This seems quite low but seems OK when compared with other sites
nearby. Definately nowhere near the totals further north and west. Total
for September and October is 94.5mm which is only 63% of average for the
two months.

Default Canterbury - October 2004

I'm sure your rainfall figures are correct Jonathan. Keith's at Southend
were 72.6 mm and I'm sure there has been some sort of Thames estuary effect
or just being that bit further East and South. George's in Epping were
higher at 106mm but I spent a lot of time looking at the radar during this
month's rainfall events and it often split as it passed London, and got
stuck just North of London on a couple of occasions. When you think that one
event gave almost 20mm of Southend's rain you can see it has really been
quite a dry October in the S.E. corner of Kent and Essex.
