Default jet stream question

I like to take an interest in the way the weather works and am currently
trying to get to grips with how the jetstream influences weather. From what
I understand, the jet stream is caused by huge pressure differences in the
upper atmosphere caused by warm air to the south and cold air to the north -
is this correct?

I understand that small kinks in the jet stream are the reason why low
pressure systems form - again is this correct?

Thanks,
Wayne.
