Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Sunday. Issued 0609z,
10/11/04. The runs today show that after a westerly spell to start the week there's a chance of another brief northerly interlude by Wednesday. However, the GFS is not at all keen to bring in a northerly, instead showing a zonal flow. As ever, more runs are needed. ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif High pressure is centred to the SW of the UK, leading to westerlies for all. The winds become NNW'lies for most at T+144 as a second high moves eastwards to lie to the west of the UK, followed by light winds for most on day 7 as the second high moves over the UK. MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html The MetO run shows westerlies for all as the result of high pressure to the south. A new high builds over Iceland at T+144, leading to northerlies and WNW'lies over the UK. GFS: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Rtavn1201.gif Strong westerlies cover the UK due to high pressure over and west of Biscay. 850hPa temperatures vary from +2C over SE England to +6C over NE England. A ridge brings lighter NW'lies at T+144, followed by a return of stronger westerlies on day 7 as low pressure deepens to the SW of Iceland. The westerlies continue on days 8 and 9, followed by SW'lies and southerlies on day 10. GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html The Canadian run shows highs to the south of Greenland and to the NE of the Azores. Strong WNW'lies and westerlies cover the UK, with 850hPa temperatures from -3C over NE Scotland to +7C over SW England. The winds become northerlies and NNW'lies at T+144 with a weak ridge linking the Azores and Greenland highs. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...100000_120.gif The UK lies under westerlies, with high pressure to the south. JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html The Japanese run shows high pressure to the SW bringing NW'lies and WSW'lies across the UK. 850hPa temperatures vary from -4C over SW England to +2C over Northern Ireland. WNW'lies affect the UK at T+144 as a ridge moves eastwards, followed by strong to gale force westerlies on day 7. Day 8 sees strong NW'lies as the Azores and Greenland highs ridge towards each other. NOGAPS: http://129.13.102.67/wz/pics/ngp10.prp.120.europeg.gif High pressure lies to the north of the Azores and a ridge from the high covers the Celtic Sea, leading to westerlies and northerlies for the UK. GM CPTEC: http://www.cptec.inpe.br/prevnum/Global126_sx6_Gl.shtml The Azores High is displaced NE'wards, with a ridge over the Celtic Sea. As a result, winds are SW'lies for Northern Ireland and Scotland, with northerlies elsewhere. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif Northerlies cover the UK, with a ridge to the west. MM5: http://rain.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/plots/n...6hrn.hr120.gif The UK lies under strong to gale force NW'lies and WNW'lies due to a deep low over the Northern Isles. MM5 Snow forecast: http://rain.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/plots/n...snoc.hr120.gif Unavailable today. |
