. uk... Hello Ken, I know what you are saying but this does just seem different down here this year. snip I think it's just your Durham permafrost myself. ;-) Dave Hi, Dave, LOL!! It's still looking good for you in the next few days. If it's heavy enough, it'll lie. Then you need a north facing field, preferably shaded by high trees. Good luck, -- Ken http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/copley kencookATcopleydurham.freeserve.co.uk |

When I was in Prague in November, it was under never over about 1 degree,
and mostly was under freezing for the whole weekend.. It also snowed all weekend, not hard but mostly consistant light snow with some moderate falls.. and to my surprise, even after 2 days of snow, virtually none of it had settled - I couldn't believe it.. this was around the time that some parts of the UK got a dusting. In fact, on the train to Stansted from London there was snow lying. I very much doubt that more snow fell here overnight than did in Prague the whole weekend, but like I said.. no accumulation.. "Dave.C" wrote in message .uk... I'm still puzzled as to why the snow is reluctant to settle and melting so quickly. Overnight the temp was -0.7C and at 0.6C this morning the snow is melting fast. I can remember falls in March where it was sunny and 2-3C and the snow stayed, especially, in the shade, for a couple of days. Is it that the ground is much warmer deeper down as we have had virtually no frosts? Dave |

Sublimation perhaps? Certainly seen that in very dry air, with snow disappearing to leave dry ground. Whereas this morning's stuff disappeared to leave the ground looking like it had rained, so I'd call it melting, despite the low air temperature. Edmund |
