Default To Jon and Phil re. SAMOS queries

I'm not sure whether my response to your discussion (I think
the thread was entitled, "First Essex Snow") ever reached the
newsgroup but if not, I can tell you that SAMOS will usually
query a strange entry. This can be overridden by the operator
with a click or two of the mouse button.

Co-incidentally, while actually reporting present weather
-SHSN yesterday, I also inserted RERA to see if SAMOS
would query this combination of present and past weather.
It did not.

Needless to say, I removed RERA before sending the ob!

Cheers,

Nigel.

Thanks for investigating it, Nigel. Just wondering, does SAMOS automatically
suggest the weather type and also the REweather section ? If it does provide
a first guess weather type it's somewhat puzzling that didn't get the
REweather right, unless it genuinely had thought the weather type was rain
in the period preceding the ob. Furthermore, does it correctly interpret the
change from light to moderate/moderate to heavy and vice versa that is
needed for RERA etc ? (assuming I've got that correct !)

So many questions..

Jon.

Talk of the devil, Stansted :-

EGSS 221220Z 04011KT 9999 FEW010 SCT040 01/00 Q1016 RESN
EGSS 221150Z 03009KT 3500 -SHSN FEW002 SCT006 M01/M01 Q1016 RERA
EGSS 221120Z 05013KT 9999 FEW016 SCT022 BKN028 01/M01 Q1016

In theory the 1150Z METAR indicates there was moderate or heavy rain
preceeding the ob and at the time of the ob they had a light snow shower.
Hmmmm, I smell a rat.

That's interesting as yesterday early evening Stanstead was reporting rain
at a temperature of minus 1C on VOLMET!
