Today was our fourth morning in a row with snow cover at 0900, with
persistent cover since 1630 on the 19th. It's always been a marginal situation with even our modest altitude making a significant difference. The altitude effect was really noticeable this morning driving down to Sheffield, with the slag heaps around Doncaster sufficiently high to get a covering. Has it been cold? Hardly. Sat 19 Min -0.8 Max 3.8. Sun 20 Min -0.7 Max 3.7 Mon 21 Min -1.4 Max 5.3 Tue 22 Min -0.4 (so far) Max 4.0 The temp fell no lower than 0.1 last night. Mondays high was interesting as the temp rose from 0.8 at 1205 to 5.3 at 1300, then fell back to 1.4 by 1440. Total hours below freezing in those 4 days a massive 18.3 hours. Total precip 27.7mm, though there are still some accumulations to melt in the gauge. -- David Mitchell, 70m amsl, Langtoft, East Riding of Yorkshire. |
