Default Cold November Day

Min of -2.1C this morning followed by glorious sunshine but a
max of just 3.5C. When I looked back in my records (admittedly
only back to 2000) I was very surprised to see these were the
coldest max and coldest min I have recorded in November
by a considerable margin. However this is presumably due to the
mildness of recent Novembers rather than today being particularly
cold by historical standards.

I believe you have to go back to 1993 for the last *really* cold November.

7.1 minmum last night, and 10.0 maximum today in Penzance.

The cold air hasn't really reached the far SW.

Only 2 November days have failed to reach 10 degrees here this decade.
9.3 on 13/11/2000 and 9.9 on 23/11/2003, which demonstrates just how mild
Novembers have become.
In addition I have only recorded 4 air frosts in November since 1991, the
last being 22/11/1996!

What exactly is cold weather, I seem to have forgotten since I was lucky
enough to escape from Swindon & return home.

Hi Col,

A wonderful view from the Manchester Eye today, great visibility and snow on
all surrounding hills, including Winter Hill towards your parts.

Max of 3.6ºC in Luton (113m) was the lowest in November
since the 27th in 1996 (1.9ºC). That one was due to
persistent fog.

That is amazing for Penzance - especially as Will only got -0.3C. Still not
had an air frost in S.|Essex but tonight may change that, currently +0.2C

Dave,

Will is very high up, and on the 'continental' side of Dartmoor. It is not
uncommon in winter for minimum temperatures in east Devon to be 5 degrres
colder than in west Cornwall.

A mild 12.4 degrees at 09:00 today, after dropping to a better 6.0 yesterday
evening. Dull, damp, drizzly & miserable.

I suspect that you may have got Col's and Graham's posts mixed up. It
was Col's minimum that was -2.1C. Graham's in Penzance was 7.1C.
