February had the highest number of days with 'snow falling' ( 10 ) in this
area since February 1986 which had 17 days. It beat January 1997 - 8days - and February 1991 which had 9. February , on its own , has equalled the modern average ( 1988 - 2004) of annual snow days which stands at 9.7. The average from 1970 - 1987 was 18.4 days. The last time a year exceeded the 1970 - 1987 average was 1996 so much probably depends on March's contribution. March's average in the earlier period was 4.2 days slumping to 1.3 days since 1988. However, the month contributed 4 days last year so maybe it is returning to form and it has already snowed here this morning. In March 1987 I logged 9 days with snow falling.
