Default February 2005 in Canterbury

Sixth month of recording at Canterbury:

February was notably "average", but that belies a fairly warm start to
the month and a relatively cold end to the month. The first half of the
month was particularly dry, but this changed by the 22nd as wind turned
NE and showers began to feed across Kent. The showers were generally
very localised, but Canterbury was affected by 6cm of level snow on the
morning of the 23rd. The whole week was dominated by frequent snow
showers, with snow observed to be falling on the last consecutive eight
days of the month. However, the ground was not cold enough and the sun
between showers failed to allow any substantial accumulations. In the
early hours of the 28th, another line of showers brought the most
significant accumulation of the winter with 11cm measured lying in my
back garden and 16cm at the University of Kent campus (70m ASL) -
definately the heaviest fall of snow in 6 years here and most likely longer.
