The late Michael Hunt from Anglia TV gave a description as to why. However, this was now over 20 years ago and I cannot remember the precise reasons. Apart from the fact it is due to the fact that the earth's rotation around the sun is not a precise circle, despite popular belief that it is. I cannot remember the other reasons. I wonder if anyone on this ng does know why? Gavin. Gavin, Google or similar on "Equation of Time". This topic comes up quite often. The last time we discussed it here was last December. Has a woman that I work with was saying that the nights get lighter after 21st December, when it's actually about a week earlier than the 21st. Joe Wolverhampton http://www.analemma.com/Pages/framesPage.html Probably the best explaination ou there, despite the dodgy sounding URL! |

You might find this site handy:
http://www.sunrisesunset.com/custom_srss_calendar.asp It allows you to enter latitude & Longitude, shows sun rise & Set, moon rise & set, Twilight times, and prints in a nice calendar format Douglas |

If anyone is Java-minded, then I wrote a package to calculate sunrise and sunset times: http://www.jstott.me.uk/jsuntimes/ There's also a simple application on there to find the sunrise and sunset time for a particular date/location. -- Jonathan Stott Canterbury Weather: http://www.jstott.me.uk/weather/ |

There is also a nice piece of software the http://www.analemma.com/SunGraph/index.html that runs on PC and Mac. Hence I can check the sunrise time every morning, and compare it with reality. Reality is never right. Trevor http://www.personal.dundee.ac.uk/~taharley/ |

Joe No, it's a big mistake to trust sensory data too much. I trust software. But what with the hills around here the sun always appears later (and sets earlier) than the programme says. Trevor |
