Default [OT] Weather trivia question

"Nick G" wrote How about Mali in Saharan Africa?

Likely candidates: Nigeria or The Congo (or is that Zaire, now), Angola
or Namibia? - Cambodia, Vietnam - probably all I can think of.

The only desert region that it never snows is a portion of Antarctica.
"Hot" deserts are only hot in the day. They tend to freeze at night -for
the same reason they get hot in the day.

I don't believe anyone knows exactly why.
(Not counting me and God. -And I am only guessing.)

I'm pretty sure it's snowed in the mountains of Vietnam. Was going to
say Brazil but I think it has done so in the extreme south, at high
levels.
Sudan? Bigger than Mali, but does have some mountains of 2500-3000m +,
so wouldn't be surprised. Zaire (or whatever it's called now) goes up
to 4000-5000m on its eastern border. Chad has the Tibesti massif.
Which is bigger, Niger or Mali? 'Cos I reckon the answer to this is the
answer to the question.
According to the CIA World Factbook
Niger= 1.267 million sq km
Mali= 1.24 million sq km
http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/...k/geos/ng.html
http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/...k/geos/ml.html
Both "slightly less than twice the size of Texas".

However on my atlas Mali definitely looks bigger. Is the projection
distorting it, or am I just bad at judging those things?

Default Weather trivia question

Sounds like its Niger then just ahead of Mali
or another likely country is Angola, which does have a mountain to 2620m
though being close to the equator is probably not warm enough, and is very
close to Niger on size at: 1,246,700 sq km

unless of course someone can reasonably say it doesn't snow on Mt Kinyeti in
sudan, which at 3157 meters sounds high but is close to the equator.

thanks for the answers.
