"Documents and Settings" and then your username on the PC then into the
following folders "Mozilla" "Firefox" "Profiles".

Ooops I missed out one. After your username there is another folder called
"Application Data". I was prompted to check again by the post by MCC, who
is not running XP, I think:-)

How right you are, sir :-)
Windows ME here.

flipping over to the other side to check - Application Data is a hidden
file.

Thanks for all your replies, but I still can't find it, I don't seem
to have 'Application Data folder after my user name in Documents and
Settings. I also did a search for a folder with that name and drew a
blank.

They are stored in an html file in your profile folder. Look for
Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxxxx.default and your bookmarks.html file
should be in there. The location of the profiles folder differs from OS
to OS but, in XP it is in [disk]:\Documents and Settings\[user
name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default

It is easier than this.

Open Firefox, click on bookmarks then click on manage bookmarks which will
open a new window.

Click on file, click on export and save your bookmarks to a place of your
choice.

If you have to re-install Firefox, just import your saved bookmarks via the
same route.
