I am new to weather instruments and at the moment trying to make a selection between different instruments. Among them are the WS3600, WS2500 of La Crosse, the WMR928 of Oregon Scientific and the Vantage Pro of Davis. My concern is the linking to the software. I have trouble obtaining detailed information of the suppliers. With those instruments is it possible to capture data, without have the computer turned on and transfer these data at a later moment to the computer? If yes, how large is the buffer capacity in terms of days and sampling events? Enough for e.g. a long holiday with data capture every 10 minutes? Maybe I need to add additional temperature sensors. The websites are not entirely clear about this. Is that possible with these instruments? Are ther other important things I need to consider? Weatherlink software for Vantage Pro comes with a data logger which, at a guess, would hold around 10 days data on a 10 minute archive interval. Archive interval can be set from 1 minute to 2 hours with a proportional data storage period -- I normally use 30 minutes which provides comprehensive data that isn't too tedious to search. It's easily changed if you require more data for a particular purpose, or longer storage without downloading. My main gripe is if you have problems (as I did from new) you have to send things back to the agent for repair (they won't supply parts), which is a PIA if you happen to live 2000km from the nearest agent (as I do). Vantage Pro seems to have become the de facto standard in weather stations (where I am at least). -- John H |
