The temperature summary readings I have posted here were recorded using
electronic thermometers as opposed to standard sheathed minimum & maximum
thermometers which were used previously. It seemed that the old thermometers
had become inaccurate since I last checked them, over & under-reading by as
much as 2C.

Comments on the perceived accuracy of this month's data would be helpful.

Cheers

Nick.

Nick, I thought before I read this second post that the figures you quoted
looked very much on the button. Pershore, for instance, had mean max
10.6, mean min 5.4, abs max 14.0, abs min -3.3.

Are you maintaining your m-i-g readings ... in order to see
if there is any systematic correction you could apply to your
earlier records?

They look fine to me Nick, not that I am any authority of course!

Hi Philip

I have only occasionally compared the m.i.g. to the electronic readings,
sometimes they coincide, sometimes they don't.

It seems that the needle in the minimum thermometer gets 'stuck'
occasionally (this has happened with two other minimum thermometers I have
used). Regarding the maximum thermometer: I have noticed a tiny 'gap' in the
mercury midway between the reservoir and the point at which there is a
widening (the place that a break should normally occur when the maximum has
been achieved). I have so far been unable to get rid of it. This gap seems
to be causing an over-reading of temperature. Maybe I ought to stick with
the electronic thermometers from now on!

Nick.

I will try from now on as there must be a 'pattern' to the inaccuracy.
Possibly the temperature extremes are where the inaccuracies are
exaggerated; I shall investigate.
