A interesting day here in the Motherwell area.
Last nights freezing fog gave way to a crisp and sunny morning by dawn with temps falling back to -2บC under the morning blue skies. Reached a maximum of 3.8บC this afternoon, soon after which the fog rolled back up through the valleys and now its back to thick freezing fog. Visibility at this location no more than 60 yards at the moment, so much thicker than yesterday - when there was a spate of road accidents in this part of Scotland, hopefully the inexperienced fog drivers have learned how to switch on their fog lights and slow down this evening. I note some areas around Glasgow have been shrouded in freezing fog all day. The sequence of Obs from Glasgow Bishopton report 200m vis or less since 08Z on Wednesday, falling to 60m at times. Similar conditions have been reported from Greenock. No doubt Air pollution is also generating hazards in the fog also esp from Traffic. Conditions should improve overnight as the Atlantic Weather begins to move in and boundary layer is mixed up. ![]() I have often wondered at what temperature who get freezing fog ( I know someone is going to say zero, but its surely not as straight forward as hat - is it) Its currently +1.0c outside with fog - grass is frozen but other surfaces appear wet. I remember when I lived in Irlam, Manchester many years ao we had freezing fog on many occassion, it was so thick sometimes that it started to give the impression it was snowing Paul Brampton, Cumbria |

Ah! But of course (see the other thread), the fog was on untreated
roads, so all those misfortunes were inevitable. Jack |
