Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Wednesday. Issued
0559z, 4/12/04. The runs persist in showing a mobile outlook with mild, wet and windy weather likely for most towards the end of next week. SE England in particular may remain more settled though, due to a ridge from the nearby European high. As ever, more runs are needed. ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif Southerlies and SW'lies cover the UK, with a ridge over England from a high to the east. There's little change at T+144 as a trough moves eastwards, but by day 7 a new ridge covers England, Ireland and Wales, with westerlies for Scotland. MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html The UK lies under SSW'lies due to a ridge over England and Wales. Southerlies affect the UK at T+144 as a trough moves eastwards. GFS: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Rtavn1201.gif A trough lies to the west of the UK, leading to SW'lies for all. 850hPa temperatures vary from +6C over southern England to +1C over NW Scotland. A trough moves eastwards over the UK at T+144, to be followed by SW'lies for all on day 7. Day 8 sees SW'lies and WSW'lies over the UK with another trough to the west. There's little change on day 9, but by day 10 a deep low to the north brings westerly gales across the UK. GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html The Canadian run shows a low near Iceland and a trough to the west of the UK. As a result, winds are SW'lies for all, albeit light over SE England. 850hPa temperatures vary from +6C over Kent to +2C over NW Scotland. The trough moves over the Irish Sea at T+144 to bring SW'lies for much of the UK; Northern Ireland is the exception with WNW'lies. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...040000_120.gif Southerlies and SW'lies cover the UK as the result of a ridge over southern England and a low to the NW. JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html A deep low is located to the south of Iceland and this brings SW'lies across the UK. The winds become southerlies at T+144 due to a secondary low west of Ireland. NOGAPS: http://129.13.102.67/wz/pics/ngp10.prp.120.europeg.gif NOGAPS also shows SW'lies across the UK, this time with low pressure to the SW of Iceland. GM CPTEC: http://www.cptec.inpe.br/prevnum/Global126_sx6_Gl.shtml WSW'ly gales cover the UK, again due to low pressure near Iceland. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif Yet again there's a deep low near Iceland and this time it brings WSW'lies across the UK. |
