Oak trees still in leaf in East Yorkshire A frost severe enough will remove leaves but without the frost the normal cycle will run through. I saw some conker trees lose all their leaves one spring but they regrew. They don't get that chance on whatever deciduous trees still have them in December. American oak is not deciduous -though these look more like sessiles. Some deciduous oaks (if not all kinds?) have two leaf growths; sending out a burst of new leaves in September, if I remember correctly. Far be it from me to wonder off topic but: Since most of these kinds of deciduous oaks cross breed, can they be described as "species" would anyone know? -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |

Few or no leaves left here in the Solent Riviera - all blown off by the last lot of gales. I always thought the trees up North lost their leaves first! Maybe it's a coastal thing. -- Dave Fareham |

Frost? What's that. Still only one so far this autumn/winter in S.Essex.
Still quite a few leaves to fall. Dave, awaiting the cold ;-) "Paul Hyett" wrote in message news ![]() In uk.sci.weather on Sun, 5 Dec 2004 at 21:03:46, TA wrote : Oak trees still in leaf in East Yorkshire Thursday night's hard frost killed all remaining leaves here. -- Paul Hyett, Cheltenham |
