Disclaimer: The forecaster is not responsible for losses or damage
incurred by the forecast-user. The forecast-user is responsible for his own actions at all times. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- A single chart for the period 21st to 23rd December shows a trough of low pressure stretching from N/S down the west side of the British Isles. A secondary depression lies close to the south of Ireland and a further wave appears in the Channel. High pressure covers the near continent and has a ridge stretching into south-east and east England. Winds are generally mild from the south over most of the country, but cooler west winds are approaching west Scotland. Most rain is expected in the north of the country and heavy showers run along the Channel coasts. The run of weather starts on Tuesday 21st December with LP to the NW of Britain. A secondary LP lies near SW Ireland and there is the possibility of another small depression in the west Channel. The tail-end of an HP over the near continent covers S and SE England. Winds are SSW in the N and W of the country, but variable in parts of the S. Winds are strong to the N and NE of Scotland and there may be a breeze in the SW of the country. Heavy rain comes into the SW of the country. and showers lie to the W of Scotland and Northern Ireland. A small wave may bring some showers into the extreme SE of England. On Wednesday 22nd, a large, deep depression lies to the N and NW of Scotland with a secondary depression near the Channel entrance. Winds are S to SW in the east of the country and W in the west. Winds are strong over Ireland and NW and W Scotland. Rain showers cover most of the country, but perhaps the SE will be dry. Coolest parts will be the W of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Mildest in the SE of the country. On Thursday 23rd, a complex area of LP extends from the W of Scotland eastwards to the E of Scotland. A secondary LP appears near the Channel to the south and SE of Britain. Winds are W or SW in the north and may turn E in the extreme south of the country. Winds are variable over central areas. Strong winds can be expected to the W of Scotland and breezy conditions off E Scotland and over SW England. Heavy rain covers north Scotland and also parts of S and SE England. Coolest in the N and NW of the country and warmest in the extreme SE of England. This is only a short forecast which paves the way for the Christmas and New Year forecast which was posted some time ago. I intend to re-post the Christmas forecast as it was written then. Cheers, Keith |
