Default Manual obs finishing at LWC tonight

A complete disgrace if you ask me! The MO should hang their heads in shame.

What's all this about saving lives and quality!? I rest my case.....bring
back the personal touch and get rid of these "tin pot" observing systems.

The MO have decided to stop taking manual obs at London Weather Centre
from 00z tonight. Thus there will be no present weather, cloud and
visibility obs although the other parameters will be taken
automatically. This means no more snow verification, etc etc. What a
travesty No obs in the capital city.

Paul.

If I were still employed by the MO there's no way I'd do manual obs on
the 1 day in question.

Oh I expect on that one day of the year they will be able to find
someone to do manual OBs...

Maybe.

Is moral that low? Dear me...

[OBS] and [WR]s are becoming increasingly useful with each passing
day.

And TBH getting a bit of PITA in this group. [OBS] especially as they
are coded and not just a bit of narrative about the weather. [WR]s
appear to have drifted away from the orginal where only unusual or odd
weather conditions were reported to people posting "It is are raining
here also!"

Maybe time for a uk.sci.weather.obs group?

Remember last winter when the Met Office asked the public for snow
depth reports? And why not, an excellent initiative indeed.

I used to find that day a good day to work, it was quiet, no one else
in apart from those that had to be in and most of them had made that
choice. I mean there isn't a lot else you can do on that day every
where is shut, there's no decent telly. Choice sit at home on yer tod
or take a few mince pies and a bottle into work to share with
collegues?

I now have a family so try to be at home but said family also needs
feeding and I'm freelance.
