Default Manual obs finishing at LWC tonight

The MO have decided to stop taking manual obs at London Weather Centre
from 00z tonight. Thus there will be no present weather, cloud and
visibility obs although the other parameters will be taken
automatically. This means no more snow verification, etc etc. What a
travesty No obs in the capital city.

Paul.

.... a sad day indeed; I always thought that where there were staff
available, then some manual element would be preserved, even if the
machinery was left to do the donkey work.

Yes Paul, another absolute disaster. If one asks the question, is the
weather safe in the Met Office's hands, the answer must be, sadly and
disgracefully, NO. As taxpayers, we are being taken for a ride, pay more and
get less. It is up to the amateurs to prevent us entering another dark age
from which no useful information can escape.

Hmm... that's what happens when you put accountants in charge.
