Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for 12z on Saturday. Issued
0609z, 5/04/05. The models continue to show a ridge toppling over the UK over Saturday into Sunday, followed by milder westerlies or WNW'lies. Beyond that things are less certain, with the GFS and JMA introducing a north/south split (dry and mild in the south, wet and windy further north). The MetO on the other hand brings gales for all, so as ever more runs are needed. ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif The UK lies under NNW'lies and NW'lies due to a ridge to the west. The ridge sinks SE'wards at T+144, allowing milder WNW'lies to affect all areas. A new ridge builds over the UK on day 7. resulting in westerlies and NW'lies. MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html The Met Office run shows a weak ridge bringing westerlies and NW'lies for the UK. By day 6 a deep low forms to the north, leading to strong to gale force westerlies. GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm WNW'lies cover the UK with a ridge to the west. 850hPa temperatures vary from -3C over much of England to freezing over western Scotland. Milder WSW'lies cover the UK at T+144 as high pressure declines to the SW. The high moves over Biscay at T+168, leading to further WSW'lies and by day 8 it covers southern England, with SW'lies for most. Light winds cover the UK on day 9 due to a ridge and as the ridge sinks southwards on day 10 SW'lies affect Scotland and Northern Ireland. London Ensembles: http://64.246.48.81/pics/MT8_London_ens.png The ensembles show a marked two-day cold snap for Friday and Saturday, with temperatures aloft recovering to average by Monday. GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html A ridge lies to the SE, leading to WNW'lies for all. NW'lies cover the UK on day 6 as a ridge builds to the west. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...040000_120.gif The UK lies under a ridge, bringing northerlies for England and Wales with WSW'lies elsewhere. A trough brings westerlies and SW'lies at T+144 with more of the same at T+168. JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html The Japanese run shows NNW'lies at T+120 due to a ridge to the west. The ridge topples SE'wards at T+144, leading to NW'lies for all. NOGAPS: http://wetterzentrale.com/pics/Rngp1201.gif A mixture of northerlies and NW'lies covers the UK, with a ridge atop the British Isles. The ridge moves SE'wards at T+144 as another builds to the west; this leads to NW'lies for all. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif A high lies to the west, leading to NW'lies for all. |
