Nor the Climate Data Loggers (CDLs) which come in at 2100z (e.g. Wisley which has cropped up a bit lately), although I wouldn't be surprised if Gravesend 38.1°C was the new record. METAR only stations don't report a max and are rounded figures, thus not included. Jon. |

I can add Wokingham to your list, 36.9C max today. That is 1.3C above the
previous highest temperature recorded in the past 99 years here (in 1911). -- Bernard Burton Wokingham, Berkshire, UK. My guess is Wisley at 37.1, mentioned on the News a couple of times Sunday evening. -- Dave |

The definitive list, (for now!) is on the Met Office site at http://www.meto.gov.uk/climate/uk/in...3maxtemps.html and I quote an extract (but the rankings are mine): "Table of highest maximum temperatures - 10 August 2003 The following table shows the data which were available from our network on 11 August 2003. MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES - 10 August 2003 Station name Maximum temperature (°C) 1. Gravesend-Broadness (Kent) 38.1. 2. Heathrow (London) 37.9 3. Wisley (Surrey) 37.8 3. Enfield (London) 37.8. 5. Northolt (London) 37.7. 6. London Weather Centre 37.6. 6. St.James Park (London) 37.6. 8. Cambridge Guildhall 37.5. 9. East Malling (Kent) 37.4. 10.Southwark (London) 36.6. 11.Herne Bay (Kent) 36.5. " I think it is safe to say the old record of 37.1 was well and truly demolished, nine stations beating it and the top 4 exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Gravesend also equalled and probably beat the "unofficial" record previously claimed by Tonbridge in Kent at 100.5 degrees F (38.06 deg C). What a day! -- Dave |
