Default 38C here in South Cambridgeshire.

Hello Chaps,

Well we made it. So did I with 38C recorded on the back
of my shed. I cannot officially make a claim unfortunately as it would not
be seen as a full standard exposure, but I am well aware that the readings
I get there frequently tie in with the official records locally and
nationally.
I am well pleased, and at the same time amazed. I really did not think
that 38C was possible here in the UK.
The TWO should give themselves a good pat on the back despite what
people say about them. They forecast this hot summer months back. They also
speculated about 38C 100F also.
Philip Eden should also be pleased as he privately has admitted that
the magic 100F is possible.
We are now a third of the way through what is already an amazing August.
I wonder what the next 10 days has in store then we can start looking at the
CET for this month.

Regards Gavin.

TWO and Metcheck *always* seem to be forecasting 100F. It was inevitiably
going to happen sometime. Today just happens to have been the day it did.

Yup, I have always thought that 38C was about the theoretical highest temp
that the UK can get under the present climatic regime at least, but with global
warming who knows what's possible..........

Of course it helps that the hot spell started at the beginning of the month so
that will help the stats, but that shouldn't detract from the fact that it could
be a record breaker. The highest individual CET I can find is 19.5C in July
1983, now even my average for the first 10 days of August is above this
at 19.7C. Clearly this won't be sustainable but what with next week promising
warm and settled conditions Aug 2003 will almost certainly be one of the hottest
on record.
