Surprisingly high maxima at Solent (especially) and Thorney Island.

My own maximum (to nearest whole degree F) was 59 (15.0C) and
Southampton A/P had no half-hourly METAR higher than 14 deg C. These
match my own readings quite well. My screen is currently shaded from
direct sunshine so I expect to be a degree or two lower than Solent
*and* the A/P in light winds on sunny days - I did not think yesterday
was such a day and surprisingly, Solent (not I) was the odd one out.

Possible explanation? (apart from instrument error or screen
problems): shelter from the wind by the closely adjacent coastguard
building at Solent, coupled with brighter/greater amounts of "coastal"
sunshine than further inland. Any other thoughts, anyone?

In yesterday's NW winds, I am 5 miles upwind/inland of Solent MRSC and
Southampton A/P is 7 miles beyond that.

I'm surprised at that temperature. I was out in the New Forest
yesterday and while not cold in the same way as Friday or Saturday, it
was decidedly cool. An 18C temperature with the fairly cloudy skies of
yesterday would feel decidedly muggy at this time of year - it was not
like that at all. I'd have guessed around 13C.
