Default [ot] MSDOS batch file programming

A Completely off-topic question....

In order to create the animation in another post, I use an MS-DOS command
line utility called "gifsicle"

I can then create a batch file and schedule it to run automatically using
the scheduler facility in Windows XP.

I know that in Unix, I can tag a backslash at the end of a line so that long
commands can be split over two or more lines.

The Gifsicle command can get quite large as the file-name for each frame
must be entered on the command-line

Can I split this into seperate lines in a similar way that I can in Unix?

Thanks

Brendan

Have you tried *.gif in the command line, Brendan? I came across such a
line as he

gifsicle --delay=10 --loop *.gif anim.gif

I am absolutely no expert in DOS, but would guess the answer is a "no".
Are you running it from the command window in WinXP? Is there even a line
length limit in the cmd window in XP - could you not simply let it wrap to
the next line?

I'm no DOS expert, but did dig up an old thread from alt.msdos.batch
that might help, as it's entitled "split command over multiple lines?"
You can see it he

IIRC, inserting a hyphen as the last character on a line acts as a
continuation marker. But it's a very long time since I needed to do
this, and I could be thinking of the VAX VMS command language instead!
