The Augusts of the 1950s. Overall wet
7 of the Augusts of the 1950s have an EWR of 100mm+ 1950 121.3mm 1951 131.2mm 1952 104.1mm 1954 123.7mm 1956 158.6mm 1957 109.2mm 1958 102.9mm Indeed the period between from 1946 to 1963 inclusive, 12 of the 18 Augusts have an EWR of 100mm+ making it the wettest August period in the records with a combined total of all the Augusts of 1746mm or an average 97mm per August. Source: TWO. My Comments: This was a real suprise to me. I wasn't around then so I did not experience it. My parents remember this and said that summers were awful in this period. By my goodness no wonder the UK got a bad reputation for its summers. This goes a hell of a long way to explain this. I wonder if anyone can give a reason as to why summers were so bad in this period and why August was so wet. -- ************************************************** ********** Gavin Staples.
