As noted elsewhere, I am just getting around to updating the Glossary to
include an [OBS] entry. The text I intend using is as below .... entry in glossary OBS: in general use, often used as an abbreviation for observations; in the *specific* case of the newsgroup uk.sci.weather, used as part of the 'Subject' line where the body text contains observations in some structured (perhaps semi-coded) way and in a time sequence. The (suggested) format for the Subject is: [OBS] locationdate (this entry may be amended with experience and validation of the current trial - see also 'WR') /entry in glossary The important point here is that there is a *sequence* of observations contained in a single thread (and single post if the previous obs are carried forward) from one location so developments at a point can be quickly seen. Other reports etc., will use the [WR] prefix in the Subject line. The entry in the FAQ will be the one to contain the attribution to the David's (various).
