Default SIGH - Freak Storms Kill 6 in France

Sad that 6 people lost their lives.

But when will the media ever learn !!

Freak Storms eh?

Try an area of more severe weather that developed in an already
unstable weather situation.

It's radio hosts like Art Bell, that clasp onto headlines like this to
backup his book and Day After Tomorrow scenario

Every time there is a severe weather anywhere in the world, some people
use that to say "I told you so" the next ice age is cometh
I just call 'em Merchants of Doom and Gloom

I suppose one might say it was an act of God that they didn't see it
coming? And the Beeb showing occlusions for Thursday well in line with
the time of the phase.

Now then, who did I tell to be careful of what they ask?

The Philippines or somewhere caught a packet too. Anyone got the gen. on
that?

I see from the above that it was "A freak hurricane-force wind" and that
"The storm hit Paris" and this caused "Meteo France, to issue its
second-highest alert".

The ususal media drivel then. While sorry that people dies in this, the
poor standard of reporting is an annoyance.

What, after all, is the difference between a hurricane and a freak
hurricane? Was it a hurricane or a storm? And I cannot help but wonder
what it would take for Meteo France to issue its highest alert.

AFAIK all categories (gales, storms, light breezes) have gusts which
might measure high enough to appear in another category, and many have
brief moments of respite which would appear in a lower category.
I look forward to reading about a storm which has gale force intervals
as well as 'exciting', news headline-grabbing 'hurricanes'.
I suppose if there was a hurricane at some point, they would invent the
'super-hurricane-gust' to report with it.

For reference:
