I saw this clearly as I drove through Letterkenny, the county town of
Donegal this lunchtime. As I left the town there was absolutely no low cloud but plenty of As, Ac, Cs and CiCu, with some wave features in them. From a particularly dense area of cloud I could see ppt (snow) falling from a base of about 10,000 feet. After another four miles of driving towards the City of Derry, I came across a light rain shower as I went underneath that falling ppt. I was surprised it hadn't all evaporated on its way down to the surface. The Dundee sat pic for 13.39 UTC shows the clouds well. This is the visible http://www.sat.dundee.ac.uk/abin/pro...roject.ch2.jpg and the IR http://www.sat.dundee.ac.uk/abin/pro...roject.ch4.jpg Free registration required. -- Mike 55.13°N 6.69°W Coleraine posted to uk.sci.weather 15/05/2005 15:29:55 UTC |
