Thank you for your e-mail regarding the BBC Weather.

I understand that you dislike the new format that we have adopted.

Let me assure you that our audience told us that while they enjoyed the
weather as it was, regarding the BBC forecasts as the most reliable and

blahblahblah. Standard Letter NW-3, pre-written months ago.

With our help, they'll sort it out eventually. Simple things like a
brown coloured UK are certain to be changed - basic and obvious but
completely missed in the pilot testing etc.

Such is life - as always with new software/hardware/systems. We'll
have to give 'em time but let's keep our "observations" (complaints!)
going until they get it right.

Ah so the Fell Forecast, Inshore Waters and Farmers/Gardening Outlook
that was on the Cumbria text page is no more for ever as the "central
data database" will have "eradicated" such a regional variation.

Bah, it's a heap of poo and looks like it.

The aim of the new system is to make the weather as clear and as
easy to understand as possible. That means making the weather
(cloud, rain, sunshine etc), as prominent as possible and stripping
away other information which detracts from the weather forecast.

I've only seen one forecast, from the Multiscreen News page on the
BBCi. Even at 1/4 frame size all that swooping about a) detracted from
the presentation of the information and b) made me feel seasick, I
better get a bucket ready for when I see a fullscreen forecast...

So we've kept the elevation of the maps (mountains etc) but we've
taken away variations in colour which come from using standard
satellite photography. That means you can't ...

Tell where your particular location is as you can't realate it to the
topography or habitat.

see the difference between deserts or green fields

I didn't think the UK had any deserts...

However, over time, as with all new technology we feel that this
problem will become less frequent.

Head, bucket, sand. But of coruse I bet it wasn't a cheap system so
they are not likely to change things just because the viewers don't
like it.

Anyone seen the "new" weather style of the BBC forecasts?

Very 2 dimensional. The ITV messed around with a much more interesting
format last year.

And to cap it all they still send the bloody fools up on the damned
roof. What is that gasometer thing?
