Morning all,
Does anyone know if video recordings are made of RMS meetings? I'd like to get to the convection meeting on Wednesday but unfortunately can't make it. If video recordings are not available, perhaps this is something to suggest to the RMS. I know that the Society for Popular Astronomy and (I think) the BAA do as well. Thanks, Simon Simon Keeling |

This way the Fellows / Members / etc of the Society would get something for the not inconsiderable subscription we pay and those not such members could still obtain them by purchasing that publication. The meetings are allegedly open to the public anyway (all the Society normally asks is that non-members sign an attendance form) so surely there is nothing confidential in them. If we can video a musical we have presented at our church, I am sure the technology exists to record without ruinous expense a "professional" meeting in the controlled environment of a lecture theatre. A DVD run of the size of the "Weather" magazine should be reasonably economical and it would certainly be worth examining whether a slight increase in the cost of "Weather" / Society subscriptions (which include this publication) would be justified to recover the cost. I very much regret that I cannot attend meetings as much as I used to, largely due to most of the interesting ones (including this coming one) seeming to come at times when we are very busy at work and I can't get time off. I would love to be able to play the DVD. It would also enable us to appreciate the best presentations whilst being able to skip the inevitable one cranky and poorly presented offering (or perhaps we could watch it to get the full experience of having been there!). The answer to the General Secretary's obvious comments about the "Quarterly Journal" publication is that the presentations at the meetings are only "abstracts" or "selected highlights" of the full papers. Anyone wanting the full details of the research and all those juicy equations is still going to want the "Quarterly Journal". -- - Yokel - oo oo OOO OOO OO 0 OO ) ( I ) ( ) ( /\ ) ( "Yokel" now posts via a spam-trap account. ![]() "Yokel" "Rodney Blackall" | Simon Keeling | Does anyone know if video recordings are made of RMS meetings? I'd like................................- I managed to get along at the last minute and thought the whole thing pretty good with a high standard for all presentations.J W Wilsons talk was especially interesting and entertaining.AS CSIP runs for 3 months this summer it really set the 'scene'. Couldn't the PPTs be made available somewhere? I made some notes so I could elaborate here on the available abstracts if people are interested. BTW anybody lurking here who has influence-the CSIP site hasn't been updated for a while- http://www.env.leeds.ac.uk/csip/ it wld be good 'out reach' to have regular updates (tho I assume more important matters need attending to ), -- regards, David add '17' to Waghorne to reply |
