I don't see what's miserable about that? Sunshine well above average for the
time of month, rainfall well below and temperatures a bit below the mean
depite the sunshine - all points to a clear, crisp month so far on the face
of it.

Had it been very much below average temperature wise, with above average
rainfall and below average sunshine then perhaps "miserable" would have been
a better word.

I'm still intrigued as to when we'll next see a below average month
(temperature wise) though. In theory over the course of the year half of
them should be yet there's been a distinct lack of them in recent years!

I'd imagine the warm nights over the next few days plus the heatwave next
week will be enough to tip this month above average as well, but purely for
interest's sake I'd be delighted if that wasn't the case.

I wouldn't use the word "miserable". It's been sunny at times here, and
dry pretty much throughout. The only disappointing aspect has been the
lack of warmth, in spite of the sunshine- this was the reason behind my
"Who's reached 21C" thread.
"Miserable" to me means days on end of low, grey overcast, steady but
not torrential rain and temps too warm for snow but too cool for
shirtsleeves. Last October here was an excellent example of a
"miserable" month.

We have had below average sunshine round here. Seems like many of those in
west have done better than we have.
Looks like next week will be different though:-)

In that case, if you've had the same temperatures as we have, it would
be a poor May indeed (apart from the dryness). This week hasn't been as
bright as last, but only Monday was what I'd call "dull".
I still don't hold out much hope of reaching 21C here in the next week
with all those lows nearby. Had 2 airfrosts this month, same as in
January!

Edmund
